Six more players join the Monterrey Legends Game

The Monterrey Organizing Committee for the 2026 FIFA World Cup™ announces six more players for its LEGENDS GAME to be held on September 20 at the Monterrey Stadium at 8:30 p.m.

It will be an event that will pit FIFA International Legends against FIFA Mexico Legends in a friendly match.

The new additions are: Alessandro Del Piero, David Trezeguet, Diego Forlán, Oribe Peralta, Oswaldo Sánchez and Miguel Layún.

These six legends join Gianluigi Buffon, Carles Puyol, John Terry, Luis Hernández, Jorge Campos, and Jared Borgetti who were announced last week.

The match will be part of the commemoration and tribute to the 428 years of our city, Monterrey, Nuevo León. In total, there will be 30 national and international legends in a 9 vs 9 game, as well as a music show and the participation of content creators.

The profile of the legends who join the roster:

Alessandro Del Piero. Considered by many to be Roberto Baggio's successor, the Italian player won five Serie A titles, one Champions League and his most important championship was the FIFA World Cup™ in 2006. He played 868 games with 343 goals. He started out at the modest Serie C club, Calcio Padova, where he spent two seasons before beginning to build his legend at Juventus in Turin.

David Trezeguet. The French striker began his career at the Argentine club Atlético Platense and became known worldwide with Monaco, where he won his first two league titles. He also played for Juventus and River Plate, and his prime moment was when he won the FIFA World Cup™ in 1998 and the European Cup of Nations in 2000. He played for France from 1998 to 2008, where he scored 34 goals.

Diego Forlán. The Uruguayan footballer was cosmopolitan, playing in Argentina, England, Spain, Italy, Brazil, Japan, India, Hong Kong and Uruguay. He played more than 700 games and scored 274 goals. He was present in his team's historic campaign at the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in South Africa, where they finished fourth and Diego received several awards: FIFA World Cup Golden Ball, FIFA World Cup Goal of the Tournament, FIFA World Cup top goalscorer and was on the FIFA World Cup Dream Team.

Oribe Peralta. His goals were key to Mexico winning the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics, one of the most important milestones for national football. The Mexican forward played for seven Liga MX clubs (twice for Club Deportivo Guadalajara), wearing the national team jersey 67 times. He participated in the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cup™.

Oswaldo Sánchez. Mexico's starting goalkeeper at the 2006 FIFA World Cup™, in addition to attending the 1998 and 2002 tournaments, he was champion of the Concacaf Gold Cup in 1996 and 2003. He was also a goalkeeper for the two most popular teams in the country, América and Chivas, where he played for 11 seasons between them. Between leagues, cups, participations with the Mexican National Team and other events, he played almost 1,000 matches, totaling 943. He won three league titles and was awarded as the best goalkeeper at the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup™.

Miguel Layún. The Mexican footballer played in two FIFA World Cups™ (2014 and 2018) with eight matches played and one FIFA Confederations Cup 2017™. In addition to Mexico, he was with Atalanta of Italy, Watford of England, Porto of Portugal, Sevilla and Villarreal of Spain. He won three league titles with América, one with Rayados de Monterrey and one more with Porto.
