On September 20, the GAME OF LEGENDS will be held on the road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup™ at the Monterrey Stadium
- Gianluigi Buffon, Carles Puyol, John Terry, Luis El Matador Hernández, Jorge Campos and Jared Borgetti are the first six legends confirmed from the 30 that make up the final roster.
- It will be a friendly match between FIFA International Legends and FIFA Mexico Legends.
- They will face each other in a 9 vs 9 format at the Monterrey Stadium.
- This is the second event of 2024 on the Monterrey platform on our way to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup™.
- Ticket sales begin on August 2.
The Monterrey Organizing Committee for the 2026 FIFA World Cup™ announces its GAME OF LEGENDS to be held on September 20 at the Monterrey Stadium at 8:30 p.m.
The match will be held as part of the commemoration and tribute to the 428th anniversary of our city, Monterrey, Nuevo León. It will be an unprecedented event that will pit FIFA International Legends and FIFA Mexico Legends against each other in a friendly match.
In total, there will be 30 national and international legends in a unique game in the country that will include soccer, music and content creators in a fusion that will boost our city and position our country as a high-level, disruptive venue with high-quality shows.
Who are the first confirmed legends?
- Gianluigi Buffon - Legendary Italian goalkeeper, champion of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ and winner of this tournament for the best goalkeeper. He has 56 individual titles, 20 titles with Juventus, 176 caps for the Italian national team, and won the FIFA The Best Goalkeeper Award in 2017.
- Carles Puyol - As a central defender, he was part of the golden generation of Spanish football that won the European Championship in 2008 and the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. He was a member of the Spanish national team from 2000 to 2013. With FC Barcelona, he won three Champions Leagues and two FIFA Club World Cups, among other titles.
- John Terry - English, a central defender of reference in the first two decades of this century. The former captain of the national team and a key player for Chelsea, winner of five Premier Leagues and one Champions League. During his career, he played 759 professional games and 78 with the English national team. He played in the FIFA World Cups™ in 2006 and 2010.
- Luis Hernández - Known as “El Matador”, he made over 540 professional appearances, scored four goals for Mexico at the 1998 FIFA World Cup™ and also participated in the 2002 FIFA World Cup™. He was also a champion with the Mexican national team in two Gold Cups and in 1999 he won the FIFA Confederations Cup™.
- Jorge Campos - He is one of the most important icons of football and pop culture that Mexico has ever produced. He participated in three FIFA World Cups™ (1994, 1998 and 2002). He was also a two-time Gold Cup champion and was part of the squad that took first place at the 1999 FIFA Confederations Cup™.
- Jared Borgetti - One of the most lethal forwards that Mexico has had in the last three decades. He played for 12 teams, scoring 46 goals for the national team in 89 matches, making him the second-highest scorer. One of the most epic moments was the header that scored for Italy in the 2002 FIFA World Cup™ against Gianluigi Buffon, who he will meet again in the GAME OF LEGENDS.
The game format will be 9 against 9 in a show and party that promises goals, emotions and fun. Part of the actions that the GAME OF LEGENDS will have will be an original skill challenge between content creators and streamers.
Later, the rest of the legends will be revealed, as well as more details about the show, musical talent, performances and activations that will be carried out with artists and content creators.
